Your number one concern should be weight...

Here's why. Let's say your vehicle is rated to tow a maximum amount of 10,000 pounds and you have just found a killer deal on a new 2019 Laredo 342RD. The Laredo weighs in at a whopping 11,000+ lbs. Your vehicle cannot pull this camper safely.

Will a 10,000 lb camper work?

Not necessarily... we suggest that you look for a camper that has a GVWR that is 80% of your vehicles towing capacity. When we are driving down the road with a camper in tow we want to make sure that the vehicle is the one in control. If our camper is too heavy then there is a great chance of it pushing us around the road which is dangerous for anyone, experienced or not. It is also not healthy for the towing vehicle's brakes.

Can I haul more with trailer brakes?

NO! Just because you have a trailer brake controller connected to the trailer brakes on your camper does not mean you can haul more than you are rated to haul. Your camper's brakes are designed to be synchronized with the brakes on your truck. You can achieve the synchronization through setting the GAIN on your brake controller. If you do not have a brake controller you can easily purchase one and have it installed.

Camping can be "lengthy"

That's right, most camping spots built in the last 20 years were built for some lengthy campers. State Parks sometimes do not accommodate the larger RV Campers either, so pay attention.

Making sure you are comfortable with weight and length of your camper is a big deal. You need to be able to fit in most camping spots and most of all you will need to back up at some point. Tow mirrors may come into play and can be quite pricey but are a necessity due to the length and also the width of most campers of today. Driving down the road with mirrors that only display that front of your camper can make for some interesting adventures...

Okay, what's next?
